If Only I Could Appreciate the Irony – By Holly Day

Published By Holly Day • Aug 2nd, 2009 • Category: Poetry

I never thought this would be me
compulsively taking pregnancy tests
every time I feel sick

so hopeful

things were so much easier when I was younger
and took getting knocked up
for granted, like the first one
was so effortless
in such a wrong time

I never thought I end up like this
shouting for sex when my P.H. levels
were just right for conceiving, checking off
days on the calendar, fingers crossed
praying that we could come together just right
just one more time

  1. I like the isolation of the line “so hopeful”; also the echoes in: “in such a wrong time” and “just one more time” – :-)

  2. I miss the old days when Holly would grace the “portals’ of the Lummox Journal with her poems…but this one is almost as good as ones I published back in those halcyon days of long ago. Good to see you out and about again!

  3. Congratulations!
